UX Design

The design of how a product works from the user's point of view — what it does, in what order, and how it behaves when things go wrong.

Design Disciplines

UX design covers research, information architecture, user flows, content structure and validation. Its output is decisions about behaviour and sequence, not visuals: which step comes first, what is asked and when, what the system does on failure, and which features earn a place at all.

It is frequently confused with UI design because both are usually done by the same person. The distinction is worth keeping, because the failures differ: a UI failure makes a product hard to read, while a UX failure makes a well-built, attractive product useless for the job it was bought for.

In practice

A DeFi wallet showed balances only after connecting. Before: 80% of first-time visitors left without connecting, because connecting felt like a commitment before any value. After adding a read-only explore mode with sample data, connection rate rose sharply. The catch — read-only mode needed its own indexer and became a real piece of infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UX and UI design?

UX design decides what the product does and in what sequence; UI design decides how it looks and reads on screen. Both matter, but a strong UI cannot rescue a flow that solves the wrong problem.

Is UX design the same as product design?

Nearly, with one difference: product design also carries responsibility for business trade-offs — cost, roadmap order, what to cut. Many companies use the titles interchangeably and mean the same role.
